July 7th, 8th, & 9th Continuing in Fort Myers

We are in Koreshan State Park for a week warming up from our chilly NE spring..  We went to the beach at Wiggins Pass State Park on Sunday, and Gulfside City Park on Sanibel Island on Monday. On Sanibel after the beach we decided to stop at a local Crab Shack.  When we walked in, the restaurant was full of Boston sports memorabilia.  LOL! On Tuesday we started at the beach at Wiggins but it started to rain after a few hours.  So we showered in the rv and decided to head up to Fort Myers and visit the Edison-Ford Winter Estates.  We spent a few hours there walking through an extensive museum,  going on a guided tour and touring his Edison's lab. There is a tropical disturbance in the gulf but it seems to be keeping all the rain north of us, so today, Wednesday looks like a good beach day.

July 18th: Winnebago Factory Tour, Forest City, Iowa

From Center Point Iowa we continued north to Forest City Iowa and the Winnebago plant tours.  Winnebago must have been named after the Winnebago River which we crossed on the way there.  The Winnebago visitor center was very impressive.  They had a lot of exhibits, many new rv's to tour and many staff to answer any questions.  The Winnebago tour was also very impressive and very organized.  They drove us in mini buses to each plant after outfitting us in orange vests, safety glasses that actually fit, and great ear plugs.  The tour gave us a great understanding of how a class C RV is assembled from the chassis up.  I can't wait to try and build one myself!  At the end of the tour we looked through all the new rv's they had parked outside the visitor center.  From Forest City we set off east for Wisconsin landing in Woodman Lake Campground site #1. July 22nd & 23rd: Jayco Factory Tour, Middlebury, IN & Maumee Bay State Park, Ohio

We visited the Jayco Class C factory tour on Monday.  It was a great tour.  The factory staff are 60% Amish from local farms.  The tour was very different from the other two tours we had. We were allowed to get right on the factory floor, very close to the units that were being assembled.  A Jayco product manager gave the tour.  We started with a comprehensive explanation of the chassis design as we literally stood right at a chassis.  We then followed the line and watched as walls and other equipment was added.  I now have a great understanding of the Jayco chassis design.  I am ready to build my own! At the Jayco visitor center we again got to tour new Jayco units in the back yard of the center.  After Jayco we headed east to Ohio and settled in a great state park for some r&r for two days at Maumee Bay on the western shore of Lake Erie. July 19th: Richland Center, Wisconsin, then Taliesin Preservation in Spring Green, Wisconsin

We left Winnebago in Forest City and headed east for Wisconsin and a campsite in Woodman.  It was a small campground between two roads and we were the only occupants.  But it was fine.  The next morning we headed for Richland Center to visit the homestead of our neighbors in Worcester. After a very nice visit there we went a short distance to Frank Lloyd Wright's Taliesin in Spring Green.  There we took the  Taliesin   house tour and got a good exposure to his unique architecture.  From Spring Green we headed a short distance east and camped south of Madison, Wi. at Thousand Trails in Milton. Crossing the Mississippi Prairie Du Chien and Elaine got a good picture of the river and a riverboat So when we arrived at Woodman the population swelled to 134...
